Listen:
Al Neale's performances weave American history, traditional music and stories into memorable learning experiences.
He performs 18th- and 19th-century music, American folk music and “Old Time” music on original and reproduction 19th-century instruments.
Civil War era music is a specialty, and he performs in authentic costume when desired.
Al's programs are interactive, with many opportunities for audience participation. They are presented at schools, teacher workshops, museums, libraries, elderhostels, and special events.
Al believes that history is best remembered as narrative, with the facts presented in story form. History is composed of many layers of stories down to the story of each individual. Storytelling complements his music and makes learning enjoyable.
He also is a professional museum educator and performs programs for several colleges. He lives in the heart of historic Richmond, Virginia.
