Mission |

Founded in 1953, the King and Queen County Historical Society is
a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed to promote the interests of King and Queen County and its history through:
- Collecting and Processing Manuscripts and other Materials Pertaining to the History of King and Queen County, Virginia.
- Promoting the Writing of the History of the County.
- Preserving, Restoring, and/or Marking Historic Sites, and
- Sponsoring and Presenting Exhibits and Programs of Educational and Historical Interest for the Welfare of all of the People of the County.

Activities |

Members participate in the following activities:
- Informative quarterly meetings the fourth Sunday of January, April and October with speakers on subjects of interest.
- Annual meeting the Fourth Sunday in July at a historic home in county.
- Semiannual publication of the Bulletin of articles on county history.
- Archive and museum of county historical artifacts
- Accepts contributions of manuscripts, books, objects of historic interest relating to King and Queen County

Projects |

CURRENT:
- Creating an Oral History of King and Queen through video interviews.
- Operation and continued development of the Courthouse Tavern Museum.
RECENT:
- Reconstructing the Eastern View log schoolhouse on the museum grounds.
- Landscaping of the Courthouse Tavern Museum grounds.
- Restoration of the Fary Tavern Building and creation of the Courthouse Tavern Museum.
- Restoration and rehanging of the Courthouse Portraits.
- Establishment of the K&Q Courthouse Green Historic District.
- Highway markers for three old churches.
- Writing and publication of the county history.

Become a Member |

Membership in the Historical Society entitles one to participate in all of the activities listed above, including notices of the quarterly and annual meetings and receipt of the semiannual Bulletin, as well as free admission to the Museum.
- Volunteers are needed to staff opening of museum, cataloging artifacts, school programs, etc.
